Types of sports wagers

STRAIGHT BET – By making a straight bet, or betting straight up, you win your bet if that selection is deemed the winner. A straight bet is the most basic type of wager at William Hill – in short, if your selection wins, you win!

PARLAY – When you bet a parlay, you’re making just one bet on a series of selections all winning. If one of the selections in your parlay loses, then the whole parlay loses. But, if all selections in your parlay win, then you’ll be in for a bigger payout than had you bet those selections straight up.

FUTURES – A future bet is a wager placed on an event typically far in the future, such as which team will win next year’s pro football championship game or pro hockey championship series.

PROPOSITIONS – Proposition bets, or “prop” bets, focus on the outcome of events within a given game. Props are often offered on many games. These include Sunday and Monday night pro football games, various high-profile college football games, major college bowl games and playoff and championship games. An example of a prop bet is “Which team will score the first touchdown?”

TEASER – When you tease selections, you’re sacrificing some of your potential payout in exchange for more favorable Spread and Total lines. Only Football or Basketball whole-game spreads and totals can be teased, and you'll need between 2 and 8 selections in your bet slip before the teaser section is activated.

ROUND ROBIN – Round Robins are a collection of parlays. By making a round robin bet, you’re giving yourself some insurance, in that not all your selections have to win to get a payout. For example, if you have 3 selections in your bet slip (Patriots, Eagles, and Falcons), then Round Robins by 2’s (RR by 2’s) will be 3 parlays (Patriots+Eagles, Patriots+Falcons, and Eagles+Falcons). If the Eagles lose but Patriots and Falcons both win, your Patriots+Falcons parlay is a winner, but the other two parlays are losers. As RR by 2’s on 3 selections consists of 3 parlays, your stake amount will be multiplied by 3 to calculate your total bet cost.
